The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2024 results are out, marking another milestone in the academic journey of 962,512 candidates who sat for the exam last year.

Last year's results paint a picture of mixed performance, while also revealing ongoing challenges in maintaining the integrity of the national exams.

A total of 1,693 candidates achieved grade A, signaling an improvement from the 1,216 candidates who scored a mean grade of A plain in 2023.

Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba said among these, 1,137 were male and 556 female, highlighting a continued gender gap in top-tier performance but with notable female representation.

More significantly, the number of students securing direct university entry qualifications—grade C+ and above—surged to 246,391, up from 201,133 in 2023. This 25.53 percent success rate reflects an encouraging trend of academic improvement across the country.

Similarly, grades of C- were achieved by 49.41 percent of candidates, up from 44.2 percent in 2023. Candidates with grades of D+ and above accounted for 62.76 percent of all candidates, an increase from 58.22 percent of the candidates examined in 2023 KCSE.

"I wish to announce that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will introduce a mid-year series of the KCSE examination to be administered in July every year,” added the CS, opening a chance for leaners who wish to retake the exam to do so. The government projects to end KCSE tests in 2027.

KCSE irregularities

CS Ogamba revealed that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) cancelled the results of 840 candidates due to irregularities. An additional 2,829 results were withheld, pending investigations.

"It is unfortunate that a few contracted professionals and teachers are, however, still insistent on ruining the future of our learners by subjecting them to examination malpractices," he remarked during the results announcement.

Candidates only need their index numbers and a registered name to access their grades via the portal: https://results.knec.ac.ke.
