Family Bank unveils 'Afya' to stop healthcare costs from bleeding SMEs dry
Newly launched Family Afya builds on the lender’s extensive insurance offerings, ranging from motor & life insurance to its established medical insurance offering.
Family Bank Limited has unveiled Family Afya, a health insurance offering that is designed to make quality healthcare more accessible and affordable for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and retail customers.
The initiative, which is through the lender's subsidiary Family Bank Bancassurance Intermediary (FBBI), offers comprehensive medical cover tailored to the needs of individuals, families and businesses.
Customers are poised to access a range of benefits including inpatient and outpatient care, maternity, dental and optical cover, as well as cover for chronic illnesses, including cancer, at an affordable cost.
According to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, SMEs employ nearly 78 percent of Kenya's working population, yet an estimated 81 percent of Kenyans remain without health insurance coverage, underscoring the significant healthcare protection gap facing many workers and their families.
"There is a significant gap in affordable, comprehensive health insurance for SMEs, many of whom remain uninsured and either lack access to timely healthcare or are forced to pay medical expenses out of pocket," said Family Bank Bancassurance Intermediary Limited General Manager Erick Muriungi.
"Through Family Afya, we are providing business owners and their employees with comprehensive medical cover at competitive rates, flexible payment options, and convenient access to quality healthcare. This not only strengthens the financial resilience of SMEs but supports the health and wellbeing of their workforce," he added.
Family Afya builds on the Bank’s extensive insurance offerings, ranging from motor & life insurance to its established medical insurance offering.
The Bank remains committed to exploring strategic partnerships that expand access to insurance and other financial protection tools for SMEs, in line with its broader commitment to inclusive economic growth in Kenya.
