Kenyan chef Maliha's solo cooking spree sets New Guinness World Record

Kenyan Chef Maliha Mohammed has won the title for the longest individual cooking marathon, achieving an impressive 150 hours and 11 seconds. This accomplishment shattered the previous record of 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds, held by Irishman Alan Fisher since November 7, 2023.

Currently, Maliha anticipates official acknowledgment from Guinness World Records for her remarkable feat in the longest home kitchen cooking marathon. Throughout this culinary challenge, the chef endured six exhausting days, pushing her mental and physical strength to the limits.

During the groundbreaking marathon, the bulk of the prepared food was generously distributed to orphanages and the attending guests. Beyond her record-breaking achievements, the chef extends her passion for culinary arts by mentoring students at her home in Mombasa. Among her team are aspiring young chefs, including a significant number of newlyweds seeking to enhance or perfect their cooking skills for their partners.

In a jubilant post, the celebrant noted, "The lion, the conqueror, the champion is here! 150 hours, and the record is home. Thanks to all who came, especially Kenyans who witnessed this prolific moment in time. Remember, be phenomenal or be forgotten!"

In a post-record-breaking interview, Maliha reflected on the journey, acknowledging that venturing into this endeavor was undeniably one of the most challenging yet fulfilling experiences of her career.

Personal triumph

“Every second felt like an eternity but also an opportunity to push beyond limits. This has not just been a personal triumph but a celebration of the resilience that resides within each one of us. It has been a journey and labour of love from Kenyans from all walks of life," she said.

Nonetheless, the chef is no novice when it comes to pushing the boundaries of culinary endurance. In her initial attempt, she endured an impressive 90 hours and 15 minutes, smashing the prior record of 68 hours, 30 minutes, and 1 second. However, her triumph was short-lived, as Nigerian chef Hilda Baci swiftly reclaimed the title, only to be surpassed by Irish chef Alan Fisher.

Amanda Donahue, CEO of Proto Energy, the sponsors behind her quest, said, "We are proud to stand alongside Chef Maliha as she conquers new culinary frontiers. Our support goes beyond the kitchen; it's a commitment to fueling not only kitchens but also the aspirations of those who dare to dream."

The chef and her team will now be awaiting official ratification of the record from the Guinness World Record team, with a decision expected within the next five days. Maliha, also serving as the brand ambassador for Seagas, a product from Proto Energy, is associated with Progas brand. Her cooking marathon took place at the Proto Energy Headquarters in Nairobi, off Thika Road.
