Kenyan viewers will be on the race of pushing up the global number of fans who will watch the world cup past the record set in South Africa.
The first World Cup on the continent was seen on every single country and territory on Earth with the in-home television coverage of the competition reached over 3.2 billion people around the world, or 46.4 percent of the global population.
In 2014 Brazil did not cross the record posting 3.2 billion views despite the new online channel that scooped 280 million viewers to computer and mobile devices.
With the new TV deal announced last week by MultiChoice Kenyan subscribers will watch all the 64 games of the biggest football tournament around the world which will kick off on 14th June 2018
All DStv subscribers on all packages – Access, Family, Compact, Compact Plus and Family will have access to all 64 games of the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018. GOtv Max and GOtv Plus subscribers will also have all 64 games of the World Cup.
Subscribers will also be able to select English or Swahili commentary options on both packages.
Simon Kariithi, General Manager, GOtv Kenya said that offering customers exclusive content experiences will help them make great entertainment more accessible to their subscribers.
He said that making content experience alive to their subscribers in such ways is a powerful way for MultiChoice entertainment to tell the stories to its customers who are the number one priority.
World Cup which has maintained global acclaim for being the most popular sport in the world with 4 billion fans which has boosted TV deals in search of mass audiences.
In South Africa, the average in-home global audience for each match was 188.4 million, up six percent from 2006, while the highest average audience measured was for the final at 530.9 million, up five percent from 2006.
Nation Media Group has also signed an agreement with Kwese Free Sports to broadcast 32 matches of the world’s premier sports event live.
NTV and Kwese will air all matches involving the five African teams at the competition, two quarterfinal-matches, semi-final matches and the final.
Ahead of the kickoff, MultiChoice subscribers got a chance to ‘Chizika na Russia’ during a consumer launch that was held at Nakuru Athletics Club on 2nd and 3rd June.
Thousands of football fans and subscribers showed up to experience a taste of Russia by taking part in a number of on-ground activities and games.
