Technical education in Laikipia County has taken a leap into the digital age as Safaricom Foundation unveiled a fully equipped KES3.5 million ICT lab at Wiyumiririe Technical and Vocational Training Centre.

The state-of-the-art facility—equipped with computers, a printer, projector, and modern training tools—is poised to transform learning for students pursuing motor vehicle engineering, garment making, and hospitality courses.

By integrating digital skills with hands-on technical training, the lab bridges the gap between traditional vocational education and 21st-century workplace demands.

“This ICT hub reflects our commitment to revolutionizing TVET education across Kenya,” said Joseph Ogutu, Chairman of Safaricom Foundation. “Having implemented similar projects in Nairobi, Isiolo, and Marsabit, we’re confident this will empower both students and instructors to harness technology for better learning outcomes.”

The Foundation’s Laikipia initiatives didn’t stop at education. Earlier in the week, they boosted maternal healthcare services at Pesi Dispensary with KES500,000 worth of critical maternity equipment.

To date, Safaricom Foundation has injected KES322 million into Laikipia County, impacting over 451,000 lives through targeted projects in education, health, and economic empowerment.
