Safaricom celebrates over 200 Nairobi M-PESA agents

M-PESA Agents include Safaricom authorized dealers, operating one or more outlets around the country, or retailers with a substantial distribution network such as petrol stations, distributors, supermarkets, registered SMEs.
As part of the celebrations marking 18 years of partnership in driving financial inclusion and empowering growth across Kenya, Safaricom PLC has hosted the Nairobi edition of the M-PESA agent awards to recognise the enterprises for their role in driving financial inclusion.
The event has brought together over 200 agents from across the Nairobi Metropolitan area to honour and celebrate their outstanding performance and invaluable contribution to the M-PESA ecosystem.
According to the Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed telco, the awards are a testament to it’s commitment to recognising and appreciating the agents who serve as the backbone of the M-PESA service.
Through this initiative, Safaricom seeks to strengthen value-based partnerships while accelerating the development of a high-quality and efficient agent network.
Throughout this campaign, Safaricom has engaged over 800 agents through regional award ceremonies held across the Coast, Rift, Mountain, Greater Western, and now Nairobi regions.
These agents have played a vital role in supporting M-PESA’s journey to 50 million subscribers, driving access, building trust, and fueling growth across the country.
Across Kenya, Safaricom PLC's M-PESA Agents increased by 14.1 percent to 298,890 in FY25 up from 262,016.
M-PESA Agents include Safaricom authorized dealers, operating one or more outlets around the country, or retailers with a substantial distribution network such as petrol stations, distributors, supermarkets, registered SMEs.
Additionally, M-PESA agents include selected banks and micro-finance institutions.
Their key tasks include registering M-PESA customers, depositing cash into registered customers’ M-PESA wallets, processing cash withdrawals for registered and non-registered M-PESA customers and compliance with Safaricom anti money laundering policy and know your customer policy and business practices.
