M-Pesa Foundation is set to construct an innovation hub worth KES120 million at Maseno University which will benefit over 27,000 students at the institution.

The Foundation will construct and equip the innovation hub with 323 computers, three printers and seven projectors, two computer laboratories, start-up pods and a specialised ICT laboratory, two business incubation centres and two collaboration and ideation spaces.

The innovation hub will be complemented with a growth, research and E-Learning centre, two lecture rooms, two seminar rooms, reception areas and twelve offices.

“This investment will go a long way in fostering digital learning outcomes at the institution as we mould our learners to be future-ready for the job and skills market. Safaricom through its Foundations is a significant investor in TVET in partnership with institutions. M-Pesa Foundation has a scholarship programme which is upskilling vulnerable youth in a range of courses with digital literacy at the forefront. We expect that the groundbreaking here will facilitate learning outcomes for students from here and beyond,” said John Ohaga, Trustee, M-Pesa Foundation.

Safaricom through its Foundations is supporting various TVET programmes. At the University of Embu, M-Pesa Foundation launched a scholarship programme that is set to benefit 1,300 students across 47 counties.

In the year 2020, Safaricom Foundation launched a TVET Programme targeting 700 students in Plumbing, Electrical Installation, Food and Beverage and Welding.

Through the Wezesha Vijana project, Safaricom Foundation is supporting over 300 youth across Nairobi, Isiolo and Marsabit counties.
