The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Department for Diaspora Affairs have formed a multi-agency team tasked with humanitarian aid and an evacuation plans for roughly 3000 Kenyans in crisis-saddled Sudan.

Over 100 have been reported dead in the capital Khartoum, as fighting between Sudan's military and a paramilitary group went on for a third day in a worsening scenario that threatens peaceful transition to civilian rule in the country.

Kenya's government is urging Kenyans in Sudan to remain indoors and contact the Embassy in Khartoum for any help and emergencies via the hotline +24 9900194854.

The war is between the Sudanese army led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan who is the country’s de facto ruler and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti.

The two foes were once allies in the 2021 coup d'état which ousted former dictator Omar Al Bashir and his government. Sudan has been under military rule since then.
