Nairobi-Kisumu railway night service starts on June 10

Kenya Railways (KR) has switched its Nairobi to Kisumu train operations to a night service effective June 10.

The train will be departing at the Nairobi Central Railway station every Friday at 6:30pm to arrive in Kisumu City at 6:30am Saturday.

Travelers willing to make the return trip will board the train every Sunday within the same time frame and the journey shall set you back Kes2,000 in the first-class cabin while the economy ticket is set at Kes600.

"We listened to our customers and the general public and decided to make the change to meet their travel needs. We are also introducing more stops during the journey to ensure we cater for more customers along the way," KR managing director, Mr Philip Mainga said.

The rail transport company has already dropped the day train on the route until further notice.

The Kisumu night train shall be making stops at Kikuyu, Naivasha, Nakuru, Njoro, Elburgon, Turi, Molo, Mau Summit, Londiani, Kedowa, Kipkelion, Tunnel, Fort Tennan, Koru, Muhoroni, Chemelil, Kibigori, Miwani, Kibos before arriving at the lakeside city in the morning.

Mr Mainga said the Kisumu train, which was reintroduced in December last year has proved to be a hit with many travelers taking advantage of the deal.
