Chief Justice Martha Koome.
The Judicial Service Commission has embarked on recruiting 150 judges and magistrates almost a year after it suspended hiring following a 15 percent cut the commission's budget.
A total of 15 vacancies for judges are seeking applicants at the Court of Appeal, while 20 new judges will be employed at the High Court. Additionally, 10 vacancies for judges are open at the Environment and Land Court.
This exercise will also see 60 resident magistrate recruited and posted across the country. What’s more five resident Kadhi openings will be filled even as 40 posts for Small Claims Court adjudicators or resident magistrates get filled.
“The Commission invites applications from qualified persons to fill the following positions,” the notice read in part, adding that all the applications should be submitted to the commission by June 30, 2025, at 5:00PM.
"All applications should reach the commission not later than June 30, 2025, at 5:00pm. Only shortlisted and successful candidates will be contacted. Canvassing in any form will lead to automatic disqualification," JSC stated.
The announcement comes at the backdrop of a gazette notice issued on Wednesday last week when Chief Justice Martha Koome declared that a total of 45 positions are available for judges in the Court of Appeal, the High Court, and the Environment and Land Court.
