If there is one thing that we can all agree about as countrymen, it is that we have an exotic tea culture. Hosting a high tea party is a fun way to enjoy delicious treats while catching up with friends, colleagues or business associates.

That’s precisely the kind of High Tea Party that Moët & Chandon and luxury PR consulting firm African Elite Group; hosted at Nairobi’s Fairmont The Norfolk on February 28th.

A group of 30 guests made up of media personalities and high-end social media influencers were treated to a luxurious star dusted tea party dubbed ‘The Champagne High Tea’.

The glamorous event rekindled the English Tea affair dating back to the early 1880s when Anna, the Duchess of Bedford and a friend of Queen Victoria resolved to have tea and light snacks in her palatial home during afternoon hours - to tide her over till dinner time.

The Duchess of Bedford would soon invite her friends and acquaintances to join in the tea parties, deepening existing passions while enjoying the summertime freshness together.

This afternoon affair marked the genesis of popular ritual that was later adopted by cafes and high-end hotels.

Fairmont the Norfolk, for instance, has been holding garden tea parties for several years now. On Friday evening, the hotel was back at it again - treating exclusive guests to a High Tea Party that had a dress code theme dubbed Fifty Shades of Champagne.  

The guests were served with an indulgent selection of savories ranging from signature cakes, finger sandwiches, macaroons complemented by a premium selection of teas and of course; Moët & Chandon Champagne.

Moët & Chandon Rose and the Moët & Chandon Brut Champagnes were the most popular varieties of the evening. Every single bottle on sight was served to the last drop.

The luxurious setting was also an opportunity to introduce the new Norfolk Vegetarian option.

“Everyone in this country is becoming health conscious and as a result, this option was arrived at,” said Ms. Njeri, Fairmont’s Group Marketing & Communications Manager.

Being among the list of exclusive guests, this writer got to understand that at Fairmont The Norfolk, the high tea service is available daily every afternoon, coupled with four menu options.

This will include the newest vegetarian option, The Norfolk High tea, The Savoy Style option, and the London option.
