Graft: Ex-Nairobi finance boss loses Sh110m in assets
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is set to seize over Kes113 million unexplained cash from various bank accounts and seven multi-million worth prime properties belonging to Jimmy Mutuku Kiamba, the former Chief Finance Officer of Nairobi County.
A five-judge bench at the Supreme Court has rejected Kiamba’s final appeal against the Court of Appeal's decision, which had upheld the High Court’s ruling that found Kiamba and his associates guilty of possessing unexplained wealth.
Supreme court judges Ibrahim, Wanjala, Njoki, Lenaola and Ouko ordered these assets to be surrendered to the Government of Kenya terming them proceeds of corruption and economic crimes.
EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi welcomed the Supreme Court's ruling, stating that the agency had filed the recovery suit in the High Court after investigations revealed that Kiamba's wealth was disproportionate to his legitimate income.
The EACC further explained that Kiamba had been given an opportunity to account for the discrepancy in his wealth but failed to do so satisfactorily, leading to the forfeiture proceedings.
