Epra closes 24 pump stations for non-compliance
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) crackdown has closed 24 fuel stations for offering for sale petrol adulterated with domestic kerosene or selling export-bound cargo in a market crackdown carried out between January and March this year.
A total of 26 pump stations which were surveyed randomly have been hit with two still under investigation at the time of publishing the notice. A total of 7150 tests were conducted at 1544 petroleum sites all over the country across the different counties with Epra saying 98.32 percent of the sampled stations were found compliant.
Further, the energy regulator has closed Crescent Energy Ltd, a cooking gas filling centre in Kiambu County for contravening the law by refilling and trading with LPG gas cylinders belonging to another company without their prior consent. Nairobi-based City Gas Ltd is also under investigations for similar accusations.
Three other gas filling companies Salama Gas Ltd (Nairobi), and Green Gas Ltd in Machakos are also under investigations for prosecution for trading with rivals' gas cylinders without written consent. Wangas Kenya Enterprise Ltd (Kiambu) whose permits was suspended for a month has been reopened.
