The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) has announced an increase in DNA testing fees, raising the cost to KES27,000, up from KES20,000.

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) has announced an increase in DNA testing fees, raising the cost to KES27,000, up from KES20,000.

“We wish to inform our valued customers of a marginal price adjustment for the DNA Testing Service from KES20,000 to KES27,000 starting this January 2025. Thank you for your continued support,” reads part of the statement.

Conducted at KEMRI’s Human DNA Identification Laboratory (HID Laboratory), these tests serve both personal and legal purposes, with the type of test varying based on its intended use.

The HID Laboratory caters to private clients as well as court-referred cases, particularly those involving family disputes such as child support claims.

DNA testing at KEMRI has grown in popularity, especially for paternity and family relationship confirmations.

While saliva samples are the most common, tests can also be performed using other tissues, including blood, nails, bones, teeth, and hair.

This fee adjustment is a pointer to the growing demand for DNA testing services in Kenya, addressing both private and legal needs in family matters.
