Chinese multinational corporation Huawei says that it is actively seeking to recruit the best local talent there is.

The telecommunications titan is synonymous for advanced networking technologies and production of telecoms equipment that make up the backbone of mobile telcos including Safaricom.

Will Meng, Deputy CEO of Huawei Kenya says that the company understands the vital link between a company’s success and hiring top talent.

He said that Huawei is betting on education and training to produce high-quality ICT skills at a time when the company is seeking to loop in more local talent on its revered workforce.

Mr Meng was speaking during an online job fair that sought to hire more than 40 Professional ICT workers including; IP/IT Solution Engineers, Software Service Engineers as well as Technical Solution Engineers.

All University students that graduated in the past year were eligible to take part.

But the company is not new to these initiatives. Since 2008, its training centres have trained more than one hundred thousand Kenyans who include technology geeks, ICT lectures and University students through internships.

Last month, Huawei’s Deputy Chairman Mr Ken Hu announced a plan to replicate its DigiTruck ICT training program to three other countries after notable success in Kenya.

The DigiTruck program was launched towards the end of 2019 with young people and teachers in rural areas in mind.

Currently, Huawei serves one-third of the world’s population with its nearly 200,000 employees in more than 170 countries. In Kenya alone, it boasts of a local workforce exceeding 2000 employees.

At a time when the Kenyan government has identified technology as a key enabler to its economic transformation agenda, ICT PS Mr Jerome Ochieng reckons that the ICT sector is now uniquely posited to produce massive job opportunities.
