A year after its entry into Uganda, retail heavyweight Carrefour has opened its second store in Kampala.

The 2,050 square meters shopping center is located in Naalya, occupying the same premises that defunct Nakumatt Supermarket used to operate from in Uganda.

Franck Moreau, country manager of Carrefour Uganda and Kenya said: “With this expansion, we are delivering more convenient and modernised shopping experiences to more of our Ugandan customers. This new Carrefour not only offers a wide range of products sold at the best prices, but also uplifts the surrounding community by creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for over 90 Ugandans."

The new shopping centre will serve customers from Kampala’s Naalya, Ntinda, Namugongo areas, a statement by the French retail giant said.

In February, Carrefour marked one year since its foray into Uganda after setting base in Kenya in 2016.

Carrefour, whose Africa business unit is managed by United Arab Emirates-based Majid Al Futtaim, runs eight retail stores in Kenya with a couple of them situated in locations that were previously occupied by the crisis-saddled Nakumatt Supermarket.
