Safaricom backs 2024 Magical Kenya Open with Sh6.2 million

Telco giant Safaricom has once again demonstrated its commitment to sports development by becoming the official technology partner for the Magical Kenya Open (MKO), which tees off today.

Safariocm has sponsored the prestigious golf event to the tune of Kes6.2 million, reinforcing its long-standing support for the tournament.

As the official technology partner, Safaricom will play a crucial role in enhancing the tournament's global visibility and reach. The company will provide internet connectivity through a Cell on Wheels (COW) stationed at the event venue, ensuring seamless global streaming of the tournament.

Additionally, Safaricom will supply scoring devices and airtime for communication support, further enhancing the event's efficiency and professionalism.

Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom, expressed his delight at the partnership, highlighting Safaricom's longstanding commitment to supporting sports in Kenya. "Our continued partnership with MKO has enabled us to support the game for the last nine years. As a purpose-led organization, we remain committed to supporting sports because it is transforming the lives of millions of Kenyans," said Ndegwa.

Scheduled for February 22nd to 25th, 2024, the Magical Kenya Open is not just about golf but also aims to promote national development through sports tourism and foster talent and enterprise. This year, the tournament will feature The Golf for Disabled (G4D) event, currently underway at the Muthaiga Golf Club.

Tournament Director Patrick Obath commended Safaricom for its continued support, citibf the telco's role in showcasing the event on the global stage.

In addition to sponsoring the Kenya Open, Safaricom recently supported the Magical Kenya Ladies golf tournaments held at Vipingo Ridge, where Shannon Tan made history as the first player from Singapore to win a Ladies European Tour event in Kenya.
