Tens of health, education, and economic empowerment projects spread across Kenya are set to receive massive boost as Safaricom Foundation starts investing KES100 million under phase seven of its social impact initiative, Ndoto Zetu.

The latest financing adds to the KES500 million already invested in various projects, including hospitals, schools and community income generating opportunities since Ndoto Zetu was launched in 2019.

Ndoto Zetu is Safaricom Foundation’s support programme that seeks to solve health, education and economic empowerment challenges in communities across Kenya’s 47 counties.

“With Ndoto Zetu, we are inspired by everyday Kenyans who dare to dream not just for themselves, but for their communities. As we launch Phase 7, we are walking this journey with you, because when your dream lifts others, it becomes our dream too,” said Dr. Peter Ndegwa, CEO, Safaricom PLC, during launch of the seventh phase of Ndoto Zetu at Eldoret Special School in Uasin Gishu County.

At the launch, the Foundation donated a range of equipment, including knitting machines and materials, to support the lerning centre’s vocational unit.

These assorted equipment will empower learners to create and sell hand-crafted products, enhancing their economic independence and livelihood opportunities.

Since its launch, the Ndoto Zetu initiative has seen over 1,820 projects completed directly improving the lives of more than three million people across all 47 counties. Last year alone, the Foundation handed over 400 projects, comprising 294 in education, 52 in health, and 54 in economic empowerment.

Additionally, the M-Pesa Foundation, also launched its Wezesha Mama Programme in the Rift region in partnership with Hand-in-Hand to empower women groups in the region.

Wezesha Mama Programme seeks to provide training, resources, and financial support to organised women groups, helping them to establish sustainable businesses and improve their livelihoods.
