Absa Bank strengthens presence in Gilgil with upgraded branch

Absa Bank Kenya Consumer Network and Distribution Director Peter Mutua, Consumer Banking Director Moses Muthui, Gilgil Branch Manager Scholastica Ithia and Bewamos Hotels Founder Pesic Onchera cut a ribbon to officially open the Absa Bank Kenya Gilgil Branch.
Absa Bank Kenya has relocated its Gilgil branch to a larger, more strategically positioned location, strengthening its commitment to enhancing customer experience and expanding financial access.
In a statement, the lender said this move aligns with its broader strategy to drive financial inclusion, support economic growth, and provide seamless banking solutions to the communities it serves.
Speaking at the official opening of the new branch along the Gilgil-Nyahururu Road, Moses Muthui, Consumer Banking Director at Absa Bank Kenya, reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to improving financial accessibility and delivering customer-centric solutions tailored to evolving banking needs.
“This is a direct response to our customers' feedback and a testament to our commitment to accessibility and economic empowerment. It also reinforces our brand promise of Your Story Matters while fulfilling the desires of our customers about their experiences and needs in their financial journeys. With Gilgil’s dynamic mining, agriculture, and hospitality sectors, this branch is well-positioned to drive growth for both consumers and SMEs, spurring growth in the region,” said Mr Muthui.
The new branch targets individuals and businesses in the Gilgil region, which has a population of approximately 80,079, according to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census. Gilgil serves as a commercial hub in Nakuru County, which is known for its diatomite mining, agriculture, and tourist attractions like the Kariandusi Prehistoric site.
"We are committed to empowering unbanked and underserved communities through innovative branch services, agency banking, and digital platforms, while ensuring seamless experience anytime, anywhere," added Mr. Muthui.
As part of its ongoing network expansion strategy, Absa Bank Kenya opened branches in Kamakis and Rupa’s Mall in Eldoret last year, in addition to relocating the Migori and Imaara Mall branches to enhance service delivery.
Additionally, in line with its commitment to supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the region, Absa Kenya hosted several entrepreneurs during the Wezesha Biashara Caravan last year, aimed at empowering them to scale and grow their businesses.
"By moving closer to our customers, we aim to provide unmatched financial solutions that meet their evolving needs. With this move, we also commit to empowering the community socially, economically and environmentally through our recently launched Absa Kenya Foundation,” Mr. Muthui said further.
Through the Absa Kenya Foundation’s entrepreneurship pillar, the Bank will continue to support entrepreneurs in the region and beyond by doubling their efforts in supporting enterprise development and turning informal businesses into formal bankable businesses with long-term commercial viability.
