Over 92 million Covid-19 shots administered in Africa

Latest data by Johns Hopkins University shows that a total of 92,936,756 jabs against Covid have been administered in Africa with nine countries, including South Africa, Morocco, and Tunisia, vaccinating at least 10 per cent of their population by September 30.

At the same time, Covid-19 cases in the continent surged past 8.3 million, while over 212,000 people have succumbed to the virus.

South Africa remains the worst affected country with over 2.9 million cases and 87,000 deaths.

Other most affected countries are Morocco 935,332, Tunisia 708,203, Ethiopia 348,669, Libya 341,839 and Egypt with 306,798 cases.

In Kenya, the caseload has reached 250,191 after 77 new infections were recorded in the last 24 hours marking a positivity rate of 3.2 per cent.

On the ongoing vaccination, over 3.8 million vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 2.9 million were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 930,740.

“The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 31.5 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 3.4 per cent.
