Covid-19: Kenya records 1,166 new infections, positivity rate at 11.8 per cent
A total of 1,166 people have tested positive for COVID-19 after testing a sample size of 9,924 in the last 24 hours.
The positivity rate is now 11.8 per cent, with total confirmed infections rising to 230,794 with cumulative tests so far at 2,326,598.
From the cases, 616 are females and 550 are males, while the youngest is a two-month-old infant and the oldest is 108 years.
Nairobi County registered the highest positive cases with 347 followed by Kiambu 208, Kajiado 66, Nakuru 55, Migori 39, Murang’a 37, Machakos 32, Kitui 32, Nandi 31, Garissa and Mombasa 30 cases each.
Busia recorded 25, Nyandarua 24, Makueni 22, Nyeri 21, Baringo 17, Trans Nzoia 16, Uasin Gishu and Embu 15 cases each. Kisii 14, Kakamega 12, Kericho 11, and Narok 10.
Meru has nine, Laikipia six, Kisumu, Siaya and Bungoma five cases each. Kilifi four, Bomet, Mandera, Marsabit and Samburu recorded three cases each. Turkana, Lamu and Homa Bay recorded two cases each while Kirinyaga, Tana River, Wajir, West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwete each recorded a case.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that 1,901 patients recovered from the virus; with 1,699 from the home-based isolation and care program, while 202 were discharged from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries stand at 215,374.
CS Kagwe, however, noted that 36 patients succumbed to the virus, one of them in the last 24 hours while 35 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in April, May June, July and August 2021. This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 4,564.
“A total of 2,013 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 7,677 are under the home-based isolation and care program. 156 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 84 of whom are on ventilatory support and 72 on supplemental oxygen,” read the statement.
He added that “No patient is under observation. Another 757 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 695 of them in general wards and 62 in High Dependency Units (HDU).”
