Google invites African startups to AI Accelerator journey
Tech giant Google is receiving applications for the 8th cohort of its Google for Startups Accelerator Africa journey that is set to run from June to September this year.
The company says successful startups are poised to benefit with key skills, including leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to address critical challenges and unlock new opportunities across Africa.
"We're excited to support the next generation of African AI pioneers through the Google for Startups Accelerator, providing them with the resources and mentorship they need to build successful, impactful businesses” said Folarin Aiyegbusi, Head of Startups Ecosystem, Africa at Google, in a statement.
Applications for the next cohort are set to close on May 20th 2024 and can be submitted here. Successful applicants will benefit from equity-free support of up to $350,000 in Google Cloud credits.
The startups will also sharpen their skills through personalised guidance from Google AI experts, seasoned entrepreneurs, and industry leaders as well as tap valuable ideas through technical workshops that will offer in-depth training on AI/ML development, product strategy, and scaling.
What's more, the startup entrepreneurs will enhance their global network, by creating connections with potential investors, partners, and customers. They will also gain access to a supportive network of fellow founders facing similar challenges and opportunities.

Global network of experts
Google for Startups Accelerator Africa is a three-month, equity-free virtual program that provides African startups with mentorship, technical resources, and access to a global network of experts and investors.
Since its inception in 2018, the program has supported 106 startups from 17 African countries, and has collectively raised over $263 million and created more than 2,800 direct jobs.
